Your Bio

Dean Malaxos is a native of Brooklyn, New York who moved to Portland, OR in 2001 with his wife, Jeanne, and their son Nick. They now reside in the Catskill Mountains in Upstate NY in the town of Margaretville.

As a young man Dean was gifted in art, particularly in drawing, and has played the guitar for over 18 years. Not really feeling content in either of those pursuits he found his niche in photography, after a good friend gave him a camera to take and use while on a mission trip to Haiti.

Over the last several years Dean has passionately pursued the study of both the technical and artistic side of photography by reading practically every book he could get his hands on, attending seminars, conferences and taking college courses on wedding photography. He was also mentored by Portland photographer, Kelly brown of Brown photography studio.

His real love is just getting out there and taking photos. Dean is also a manager of an online photo community, “Professional Photo Talk”.

As for wedding photography, Dean has not only been hired for weddings in the Portland area but has gone as far as San Francisco, CA, Spokane, WA and Upstate NY as well as Tampa and Orlando, FL. Other photographers have frequently contracted him to shoot weddings and other events, as well as being contracted to shoot photos of products for catalogs, staff portraits, students, seniors and yearbooks.

Dean truly loves what he does, whether it be a wedding, family portrait, or capturing the magnificence of nature. His intent is to seize the beauty of each moment and create memories for a lifetime.
